Although our name has a local connotation, donations have been received from overseas and many regions of the United Kingdom. Research carried out in Aberdeen has worldwide benefits. When founded there was one Researcher and now there are more than ten, all highly qualified scientists and/or medically qualified.
We appreciate all the help we have received in raising more than £3.5 million, the bulk of which has already been expended and the balance in hand earmarked for current projects.
Our local newspapers the “Press and Journal” and “Evening Express” also Scottish Television (Grampian) have been fantastic in raising awareness and supporting fund raising events which have involved golf outings, traditional Scottish concerts, sponsored walks, talking to organisations, circulating leaflets and indeed everything which has produced cash to help fund the fight against blindness. We do not receive any Government funding and every penny received is utilised to fight blinding diseases of the eyes. Members of Committee are not reimbursed for any out of pocket expenses
